It Takes a Colony

As Mrs. Ribowsky's 7B Social Studies classes continue their exploration of early American life, today they learned about the Plymouth colony. The boys learned about the Pilgrims and their voyage on the Mayflower. After discussing the obstacles they faced and the Mayflower Compact signed to decide on procedures for establishing policies, the group learned about the colony's early struggles, their first winter, the neighboring Wampanoag Native Americans, and of course, their first Thanksgiving. Students worked in pairs to tackle a follow-up activity together and then completed a checking for knowledge assignment to conclude the lesson.
