Gemara with a Grain of Rock
Today, in Rabbi Danzger's 7B Gemara class, the students began the Gemara's discussion of Peiros Mefuzarin. In order to get a better appreciation of what a "Kav spread out over 4 amos" looks like, they marked out a box of 4x4 amos, and spread out a Kav (1.5-2 Liters) of small rocks. The Gemara discusses different arrangements of the grain, and therefore, Rabbi Danzger asked the boys to demonstrate what unintentional placement (derech nefila) and intentional placement (derech hinuach) would look like.
The seeds for tomorrow's lesson were planted when boys began discussing how much time and effort it took to pick up the small rocks, and whether they would be willing to just leave the "grains" there.
